Message to Friends

This year started with a special winter concert on Friday 5 January 2007 in the wonderful concert hall of the newly refurbished De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill.

The Anton Bruckner Symphony No 7 concert was given in memory of Derek Norcross OBE, DL and it was a great privilege to be able to commemorate his life in this way. We are grateful to Audrey, his wife, and his family for allowing us to dedicate the concert in his memory. We were delighted to see so many friends attend.

An informal summer outdoor barbecue including activities will take place at the Performing Arts Centre in Lewes on Wednesday evening of 25 July 2007 at 5.30 pm after the music workshop. We would love you to come and your invitation is attached.

At the barbecue we will say our thanks to a committee member for her devotion to the Friends Committee and completing her maximum six years term. I would like to add my personal thanks to her for all the help she has given me.

This Summer, there will be a concert at Assembly Halls in Tunbridge Wells
on Friday 27 July 2007 and a concert at the West Road Concert Hall in Cambridge on Saturday 28 July 2007. The Orchestra will play Igor Stravinsky’s Petrushka (1947) and the Firebird Suite (1919). Both performances will be exciting and we hope that a number of Friends will attend these concerts and make an enjoyable day out to Cambridge.

In Summer 2009, we will be celebrating our 30th anniversary. This is a remarkable achievement and we are considering home activities and exploring an exciting overseas trip. Destinations such as St Petersburg in Russia, Berlin or Croatia are being considered. The plans are still under discussion and on the drawing board so please watch this space.

As ever, it has been a privilege to listen to and enjoy such a high standard of music performed by the ESYO players which has only been possible by the hard work put in by the players, Colin Metters (their Conductor), the teachers and the tremendous support of the East Sussex Music Service, parents and friends. People are our biggest asset and we value their contributions greatly.

Your continuing support is invaluable and we look forward to seeing you, your family and friends at the forthcoming events.
