FESYO Newsletter #4 – March 2006

Message to Friends

2006 promises to be an extremely exciting year of music making with notable highlights being the summer RNLI charity concert in the newly restored De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill on Saturday 29 July 2006.

As a valued friend, you will have the opportunity to obtain a special gold ticket that allows you to attend a VIP champagne reception where you will meet RNLI crew members and participate in their training activities around a lifeboat and have your seats reserved in advance for you.

We also invite you and all your friends and relatives to an informal concert on Thursday 6 April 2006 at Performing Arts Centre, Lewes followed by a party.

The tour of ESYO to Spain in August 2006 will provide a fantastic and unique opportunity for the Orchestra to play at Festival Internacional de Música Pau Casals near Barcelona (website extracts attached) alongside two world famous chamber orchestras from Prague and Venice. We are, in fact, the only English Orchestra to play in this Festival. It is good to know that ESYO’s reputation is preceding them! We hope that a number of Friends will also attend concerts in Spain.

Following the tour, we are holding an independent Quiz evening for everyone at the Performing Arts Centre, Lewes on Friday 8 September 2006 at 7pm. This would be a fun evening with a possible fish and chip supper.

This summer, one of the Committee member will have completed her 6 years dedicated work on the FESYO Committee. Her advice and support has been much appreciated by us all. I would like to thank Nigel Philips for chairing the AGM on my behalf on Tuesday 20 December 2005 and a local musician for giving ESYO players an opportunity to perform some of his music.

We attach a revised timetable for the future events that goes as far as the Summer of 2007. Do invite all your friends and relatives as they are most welcome.

Best Wishes.
Mustak Damani
Chairman

Membership Secretary’s Report

As a Friend of ESYO you are not only showing your support for this wonderful
Orchestra, but also making a valued contribution towards its continuing
success.

In the past, money raised by the Friends of ESYO has paid for soloists,
helped with concert costs and subsidised the cost of tours. This year the
Friends are contributing £50 to each orchestra member for the tour to Spain. There will also be individual hardship bursaries given.

Friends of ESYO enjoy a number of benefits, including
Regular Newsletters
Free informal concerts
Invitations to the Annual Party
Invitations to Social Events
Voting rights at the AGM

The subscription rates have not increased for a very long time and therefore the Committee has decided that, in order to maintain the level of support given by the Friends, the annual membership rates from 1st April 2006 will increase to:

Individual £15
Couple £25
Life £90
Past Player Life £50
Renewals are due on the anniversary of the month in which you joined.

We hope you will continue your support of ESYO and continue your involvement in the activities of ESYO. We would welcome any suggestions you may have for further sources of funding.
