1 December 2004
Dear Friends, Parents and Teachers,
You should have received a Newsletter in November 2004 with an invitation to the AGM, an informal concert and a Christmas party on Wednesday 22 December 2004, a Timetable setting out the future events as far as September 2005 for your busy diaries and a brief report of the Jubilee summer programme.
I understand setting such a timetable has been tried before but never succeeded. In particular, you should note the main concert at Eastbourne Town Hall on Monday 3 January 2005, a Summer Barbecue on Friday 29 July 2005 and the main concert on Saturday 30 July 2005. We have also extended the Timetable to include a number of Chamber concerts to which you are all welcome.
If you have not received a copy of the Newsletter please request a copy from East Sussex Music Service, Performing Arts Centre, Mountfield Road, Lewes, BN7 2XH and Tel. 01273 402555 Fax 01273 402531.
I attach a notice of proposal to amend paragraph 8 of the Constitution that allows the committee the flexibility of holding the AGM in December as well as January, copy attached. This year the music students go back early to colleges and universities on 4 January 2005 and therefore Wednesday 22 December 2004 was the best available window of opportunity to hold an AGM and Monday 3 January 2005 was the best date available to book the main concert at Eastbourne Town Hall.
We have accomplished a great deal in 2004 and some of our achievements include:
(1) We have greatly increased the morale of the Players and Teachers. The letters we received from the Leader and Guy Johnston on the summer programme are a testament to this. There is no doubt that this high morale has been conveyed on to you as parents and their teachers.
(2) We have increased our income due to a number of large gifts we have received from individuals. Even after spending a substantial sum on the summer trip to Poland we have managed to end with a larger surplus than ever before.
(3) We produced a 25th Anniversary Souvenir Programme in English as well as in Polish by self financing it through advertisements.
(4) We have succeeded in setting the Timetable for 2004/5 Season and communicated it in advance, I would like thank teachers in helping us to achieve forward planning and Richard Sigsworth for booking the Eastbourne Town Hall. [We nearly missed cancelling the New Year’s Concert due to unavailability of Town Halls.]
(5) We have extended the events to include the Chamber concerts in the Timetable for 2004/5 Season, I would like to thank Nigel Philips for helping to set the dates for Westgate and art wave.
(6) The Membership Secretary has made headway on subscription and is looking into ways of providing value to members after taking over.
(7) We have made a tremendous progress on improving our communication channels through the ESYO website, I would like to thank a Committee Member for coordinating these improvements with one of our players, who has spent time to maintain the site.
(8) We bought exhibition stands from a large gift given by Bexhill Rotary Club, I would like to thank the Treasurer for all her effort in securing these funds.
These achievements would not be possible without the time, energy and resources of the committee and your assistance, what a team.
If you are already a friend, thank you for your continuous attendance and assistance. If you are not a friend, please become a friend. The forms together with the gift aid forms are available on the website address: HYPERLINK "http://www.esyo.org.uk" www.esyo.org.uk. A hard copy is also available from the committee and East Sussex Music Service, whose address and other details are given above.
Tickets for the main concert at Eastbourne Town Hall on Monday 3 January 2005 are also available from the East Sussex Music Service, whose details are provided above.
The committee look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday 22 December 2004 and Monday 3 January 2005. Do invite all your friends and relatives as they are most welcome.
Kind Regards.
Mustak Damani
Chairman of the Friends of ESYO
